Get ready, get set...

Today I wore my outfit that reminded me of Sarah Jessica Parker's pajamas on the first Sex and the City movie. The oufit consisted of black leggings, ugg boots, and a beige shirt with black/faded print flowers on it. I also wore a middle part(ish) and made me feel like Carrie the whole day- Pajama Carrie, that is!

Today was my last day of contracts, and my professor, whom I have grown to really like, sang a song about a contracts story problem and it was hilarious. I know law school can be dull and overwhelming, but it was pretty entertaining to see and listen to her sing a high-pitched song with another professor playing the guitar!

Today I need to get a lot accomplished. With the semester coming to a close, I'm hoping all the preparing that has taken place all semester will come in handy. I've completed all of my outlines, and have been doing practice questions and flashcards at home. I'm crossing my fingers it will prevent a panic attack, although I'm sure that would happen inevitably.

The girls and I are having a slumber party tomorrow night after our weeks and weeks of studying and outlining. It will be a much needed break and fun night to start off a Friday full of studying. I feel like preparation for finals is taking over my life- let's just hope it's all worth it!

Well, I'm off to continue the preparing and studying- and hopefully a lovely episode or two of Four Weddings ;)

Wish me luck, cross your fingers, and say a prayer! I'll need all three!

Truly Thankful...a few days late.

I am less than two weeks away from my first law school final exam! Each exam is FOUR HOURS LONG! Although I know the time will pass quickly when I get into the exam, I'm dreading the 16 hours that will be taken from my life- not to mention the other gagillion hours spent making outlines and studying. Arggg. I'm not having much motivation outside of the law school to read or study.

On a more positive note- I am so thankful that I met the most amazing three girls in law school. They motivate me to be a nicer person, they force me to check in my behavior, and also allow me to realize my character flaws. They also help with understanding materials, studying, creating outlines, planning ahead, and most of all, realizing I'm not alone. A lot of other people at school have been experiencing mental and emotional breakdowns, and I truly believe it's these friends that prevent me from going through that traumatic experience myself. At Thanksgiving, we went around the table and said what we were thankful for, and I jokingly said that I was thankful to not have experienced an emotional breakdown yet. But I realize that I am truly thankful, not only that, but for my great support system of my new friends, my boyfriend, my sisters and brothers, and my parents.

One more thing-It's my boyfriend, Kendal's, birthday today. I hope that he experiences all the joy in the next year that he brings to everyone in his life- especially mine. I'm so thankful for his presence in my life. I understand that it was God's plan for the two of us to be separated for the next few years in order to each accomplish the academic goals we have set, but I miss him so much. I feel like a big baby because I just saw him on Sunday morning, but you can't control your feelings sometimes. Hopefully I get to see him this weekend before the uproar of finals coming soon. That being said, Happy Birthday baby! I love you!

Hope you all had a great thanksgiving!

XOXO

P.S. I'm SO excited for Christmas and the arrival of my new baby niece! <3

My eerily forgetfulness

Happy Halloween! Thankfully I'm writing this at 6pm, because as of 8:30 this morning (upon arrival to my torts class) I was totally unaware that it was a holiday. I never thought that would happen to me- but apparently law school has officially taken its toll on me. Oh well- it's not like I forgot Christmas or something! A classmate of mine wore a horse mask in all of our classes today. It was funny in one class because of our teacher's reaction, but besides that it was super creepy!

It's starting to really get cold. This morning it was only 34 degrees when I went to the car. Of course it warmed up to about 54 during the day, but I'm actually loving the cool weather! I love the cool fall weather. With cool weather comes sweaters, boots, hot drinks, snuggling-the works!

Our second memo is due on Friday, and I'm actually quite nervous about this one. I did really well on my first one, but this one is way more difficult and constitutes 5% more of our grade. Hopefully I'll do ok, and other people will do horrible. Is that a bad thing to wish? I don't know. It's not like I want other people to do poorly, but law school is all on a curve, so it's making me hope that I can at least lead the class grade-wise.

I'm watching Hocus Pocus as I attempt to keep working on my memo. It is such a great movie, despite all the horrible ratings it received on Rotten Tomatoes a hundred years ago.

Hope you all have a spooky All Hallows Eve! And happy All Saints Day tomorrow for all of you Catholics!

Fin de semana...buena!

Happy Sunday everyone! I slept in until 10:45am this morning, and felt wonderfully rested- what a new feeling! It was really nice to enjoy a slow morning snuggling with Kendal. It was a fun and much needed weekend away from law school drama and homework.

Friday night was the Barrister's Ball at the Vet's Auditorium Ballroom. The picture above was taken there at dinner. I wore a black t-length strapless dress from White House Black Market that had embroidered polka dots on black tool. I've had it for a while- a gift from Angi Louscher- but it was much too big for me when I received it. My mom took the dress in, and now it fits like a glove! A few friends from law school came to my apartment before the ball to get ready and have some drinks. We ended up arriving to the dinner late, and therefore had to sit with random tables of older law students. Corrin, R.J., Kendal and I sat with a bunch of 2L guys. They acted like 19 year old frat boys, and were ridiculously wasted and super annoying. After dinner, we got stupidly expensive/horrible tasting drinks and partied it up on the dance floor. This made the night way more enjoyable. Kendal and I had a blast dancing like weirdos to Gangnam Style and Katy Perry :)

I've been working on homework this afternoon- after a spontaneous visit from my dad! He took us all to Texas Roadhouse for lunch, and then had to quickly return home to Mason City. It was nice to see him- even though he was dead tired.

Well, it's back to the grind. I've read all my contracts for tomorrow, but I need to read civil procedure, finish my FRUSTRATING core grammar assignment, and work on my 2nd memo that's due on Friday afternoonn. OHHH the stress of completing all of these assignments in such a limited time. Praying for strength, edurance, and will-power- oh, and some wisdom too! Crossing my fingers for an efficient and happy week!

Muggy and Miserable

I had the fantastic plan to get up early this morning and go for a run before getting ready and going to class. I set my alarm for 6am, but to my dismay, could NOT get out of bed until 7 o'clock. Not only did I not have the ambition or energy to get up and run, but I couldn't even get the strength to drag my butt into the shower. So I'm feeling a bit skanky today. Also feeling groggy (I'm attributing it to the weather), very warm (also due to the weather), shakey, and super tired. I'm just sick of being tired. Hopefully this weekend will allow my body to reboot and recharge.

I decided to make myself work on a law school assignment called "core grammar for lawyers". Holy cow, I thought it would be much simpler than it's proving to be. I started at 5, and have been working on it non-stop since...and I'm still not done! I swear I'm not that stupid, this stuff is just ridiculously ridiculous!

So, these are my rants for the evening. I'm so lazy and tired and warm that I couldn't even make myself a real meal tonight...just some cereal and soy milk. Now I'm hungry again... Can you say lame?! GAHH.

Well I hope you all are having a more enjoyable evening than me. At least tomorrow will be better- end of the week, supposed to be cooler, I get to babysit the cutest little girl and boy on the planet (until my niece is born anyway), and--last but not least--Kendal is coming to town for the prom! <3 Put me in a better mood just typing that. Yay!

OMG, I sound like I have schitzophrenia....Goodnight!

Just another Tuesday...

It's been a little while since I last posted. I get into a routine of homework and relaxation, and sometimes I just forget about blogging! Even though it's not quite Halloween yet, I'm just so excited for Christmas! To try to stop the excitement, and focus on one holiday at a time, I'm watching Hocus Pocus. Let's be clear, it is quite possibly one of the best holiday movies of all time. I've been trying to dress cuter lately. My friend Abigail, who I car pool with to Des Moines every day, dresses super fabulous. I feel the need to at least put myself on some kind of similar level.

This weekend is the Barrister's Ball, which is a law school prom of sorts. It was pretty expensive for tickets- $30 bucks each (because I'm bringing Kendal it was $60) for dinner and dessert and dancing. Drinks of course, are extra. Nonetheless, I'm pretty excited for it. My friends Abigail (mentioned above) and Corrine-as well as their significant others-will be having drinks at my apartment before the Ball, and then we'll caravan to Des Moines for a night of fun [hopefully]! It's nice to have a date night with Kendal where we can get all dressed up, have dinner, and dance with friends.

The picture above is my boyfriend, who had to make a sockpuppet for his teaching class. We skyped earlier, as he lives in Cedar Falls, and I was pleasantly surprised to see this hilarious little friend :)

Hope you all have a fantastic week- I'll be sure to post more often.

A weekend away from law school!

Welcome to October! I had a fantastic weekend full of dancing, alcohol and hanging out with my family. My sister got married this last weekend, and boy was it a blast. Friday night after my last class was the rehearsal dinner. Rib Crib really hit the spot with the baked chicken! All of Saturday was spent getting ready for the wedding. There was quite a bit of drama, but it was all fun and special nonetheless.

All of my mom's family was at the house, and it was super fun visiting and dancing with everyone at the reception. The wedding was at my parent's house, and it was gorgeous. I've included a couple of photos of the wedding. One with my sisters (the other bridesmaids) and one with my dad. It was a blast, but also quite exhausting. I had to finish my 1st memo last night- it was quite intimidating- and finished my dreaded Teply and Sloan assignments. Talk about a fun late Sunday night! NOT!

My sister and I are dragging today, and much to my disappointment, I have no food in my apartment. So, it looks like I'll be grocery shopping this evening at the ever lovely Walmart (which is actually not so lovely). Then it'll be an early bedtime for me. Gotta catch up on that beauty sleep so I can be fresh and ready for torts at 8:30 am!

Busy Bee!

Sorry I haven't blogged in quite awhile...it seems my priorities have been elsewhere. Law school has proven to be quite the work load thus far, and I don't see the pace slowing down anytime soon. I've been in such a bog of homework and studying lately, that I needed a fun outfit to pull me out of my funk! I started carpooling with a girl from my class who also lives in Ames, so I'm excited to not have to waste so much money on gas!

Our first major assignment is due on Monday, and because of my sister's wedding this weekend, I've had to be quite the early bird and accomplish it before leaving for Mason City on Friday. It doesn't a lot me a lot of free time during the week, but I suppose that's the price you must pay for a completely free weekend for family, friends and entertainment. I'm not sure if you'd really describe a wedding as entertainment, but that's about as exciting and entertaining as my life gets these days!

Hope you all have a great rest of the week!

Plan Plan Plan!

The amount of reading in my work load is finally taking its toll on my body. Last night I woke up at 2 AM panicked that I had missed my alarm. Then after waking up every hour on the hour, I got up for my 6:45AM shower. I literally had to drag myself out of bed...without my cappuccino I would not have made it through the day.

After an 8:30 class, I had a three hour break. Why on EARTH would they give us a three hour break?! It's not like we were able to choose our schedules or classes. Therefore, I was stuck on campus and forced into a law school "study hall". I suppose it's productive, but dang is it dull. The positive aspect is that I have less homework tonight at home to worry about. You know what that means-more toddlers and tiaras!

It is absolutely necessary that I plan every aspect of my day on paper. And because of this extreme planning, this is what my planner looks like! I'm trying to work ahead so I can have a little break this weekend- I hope it pays off!

First Week as a One L

I've just started my first year of law school at Drake Law School in Des Moines, Iowa. As my first blog, this will probably serve to rant about my enduring and ever-tiresome year beginning my quest to become a lawyer. I'm sure a few other ponderances will enter into the equation, but since the majority of my life will consist of law-ish things, I'm assuming that's all I'll really have to talk about.

The first thing- dressing for law school is very challenging for me. When you watch movies or tv shows about law students, you always see very preppy looking people. Upon our first day of orientation, the leaders told us that law school is actually pretty lax. Wearing sweatshirts, jeans, etc. would totally be appropriate. When I enter the law school on the first day of class, however, half the law school is wearing suits, business formal attire, and heels! Gahh. So much for CASUAL!

This is what I picked as a good "in between" outfit- not too dressy and not too casual, but we'll see how the problem of getting dressed in the morning adjusts as the year goes on!
